Association

Our next show will be Saturday, July 11, 2009, in the Dairy Barn, New Mexico Expo, Albuquerque, NM.

ATTENTION REINERS!!

Because of the current vesicular stomatitis (VS) situation we have just been notified by the state vet today that ALL New Mexico horses entering exhibitions or competitive events where out-of-state horses will be competing are required to have Certificates of Veterinary Inspection dated within 7 days of arrival at the event and containing a statement that the horses are not from a premise under quarantine for VS and have no signs of VS. We have posted the story from the New Mexico Livestock Board concerning this issue on the this page, so keep reading if you want the whole story.
Stay tuned for any further developments...........

Because of recent events our show manager is going to require folks to check in at the stall office WITH THEIR CURRENT COGGINS papers BEFORE UNLOADING OR STALLING THEIR HORSES. The stall office will be in the space just outside the show office. Please pass the word around. It seems that the NM Livestock Inspectors have been stopping more and more folks to check that their paperwork is in order, and people have been fined We would sure hate for that to happen to you, so double check that your horse's paperwork is in order! Below is what the State Livestock Board has told us concerning this issue.

As we all know there has been state law for several years that all horse owners were required to have a negative coggins in their possession to transport within the state and outside of the state. At anytime a livestock inspector can spot check. However, it is the responsibility of a sponsoring group to check for possession of negative coggins at any show or event. If a person does not have negative coggins, they are to be turned away from the grounds till they have one. This is based on the USDA law as written. If a horse positive for coggins were to be admitted and pass that on to other horses, the legal responsibility would fall on the sponsoring group for allowing them on the grounds unless due diligence had been adhered to in insuring all horses have negative coggins.   If want to know more about this, you can call the New Mexico Livestock Board at 505-841-6161, or go to their web site.   New Mexico Livestock Board.

The NM Livestock Board was notified on 6/22/09 that a confirmed case of vesicular stomatitis (VS) has been diagnosed in a horse in east-central New Mexico. The horse was placed under quarantine on June 18, 2009 and will remain quarantined until 21 days after the lesions have completely healed.  If you are heading out or coming in from the surrounding states, you should contact the State Veterinarian's office in your state for their MOST CURRENT import requirements.  For New Mexico check with the New Mexico New Mexico Livestock Board at 505-841-6161, or go to their web site.   New Mexico Livestock Board for the most current information concerning VS.
